Bill Lorenz ( “Cuz’n Bill” as he is known in the tattooing community) has been tattooing professionally for over 30 years. He first became obsessed with tattooing after seeing a tattoo on his father when he was 14 years old. When he asked his dad how he got it, his father said he’d show him if he never did it on himself.

After promising his dad he would never try it himself, he promptly went out and got a needle and ink and gave himself his first tattoo. After it got badly infected, he set out to learn how to tattoo properly, and began practicing on himself as well as friends and neighbors. Learning the craft from a variety of different artists, Bill developed his own unique style and started working for different shops moving several times between Wisconsin and Florida.

In 1999 he opened his own shop in Lake Worth, Florida, Temple Tattoo. The shop thrived until the devastating hurricanes of 2004. As his divorce was being finalized, he assessed the damage both to the shop and his personal life. Childhood friend Dave O’Connor needed another artist at his shop and invited Bill to come work for him, so he closed up and moved to Sacramento to start a new phase of his life.

Bill specializes in traditional, black and gray, cover ups and Asian scenes, although his clients range all over the spectrum from traditional to the weird. When asked what the most unique tattoo he’s done, he promptly replied “The Flux Capacitor from Back To The Future. I also did an Everlasting Gob Stopper for the same guy.”

Bill feels strongly about being able to give the customers what they want. If they walk in off the street and want a piece of flash off the walls, great, and if they want custom work then he is happy to create the perfect unique tattoo.  “It’s their tattoo. If they want something special and unique I’ll work with them to design a custom piece, but if they  want a piece of flash, that’s fine too. I’m happy to give them the best tattoo I can whether its my design or flash.”

He spends his off time painting, drawing, working on flash, building custom tattoo machines, playing with his dog Dooly and thinking about tattoos. He works every day Saturday through Tuesday, and is available for walk-ins or appointments. Follow him on instagram @cuznbill_tattooer
